WAYLAID AND ASSAULTED.
ASSAILANTS ESCAPE. [BY TELEGRAPH. —rRESS ASSOCIATION.] Auckland, This Day. A man named William James Webb, returning home to Grey Lynn at 11.30 last night, Was assaulted by two men, one of whom, he alleges, attempted to stab him but was prevented by a passer-by who wrenched the knife away. Constable Smith rescued Webb after a struggle with the assailant, who escaped. Webb was roughly handled and considerably bruised.
