EMPRESS THEATRE
"Rock of Ages."—Aa a sculptress, Madeline Bates a young widow, carves a cross, which she erects in memory of her husband who was lost at sea. One day a celebrated artist visits her home and induces her to go to the city and study art. After becoming famous among her acquaintances is a married man who pays her marked attention despite her indifference. Madeline's father visits her at the same time her wooer happens to be in the studio. The old man believes the reports he has received are true and disowns her. She returns later to her native village and devotes her life to helping the sick and poor. Whilst nursing a child she contracts a fever and in delirium wanders in her night robe and visits the cross she has erected. Sinking to her knees she produces a living picture of "The Rock of Age.'" She dies on the cross.
