LOAN RENEWALS.
HON. JAMES ALLENS' TASK.
[BY TKLKCJIIATH.—I'IfcICSS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Monday.
The Hon. James Allen's work in London is not by any meanß done with the raising of the big loan. The Prime Minister, who was asked for news of his colleague's doings, informed a correspondent that Mr Allen still has a big financial transaction to attend to before leaving England. He had to arrange for renewal in duo course of short-dated debentures totalling fourteen millions steling, not all due this year, of course, though next year the sum will be very large. The four and a half million loan of last year had a currency of two years, and Mr Allen would endeavour %o arrange for it to bo taken up for a longer term. Defence and educational matters had also to be given attention, but, in spite of all this work. Mr Allen expects to be in New Zealand before the session opens.
