PIO PIO.

Own Correspondent,

The township is still going ahead, and most of the business places are having additions made to the accommodation. Timber for new buildings is continually arriving, and when ihe season closes substantial progress will be apparent. The metalling of the Miroahuiao hill is now being undertaken by Mr Rothery, and the work is being pushed ahead vigorously. The spalling with limestone, and top dressing with rubble rock seems to have been recognised by the authorities, and there is no doubt a really splendid road is the result. It is to be hoped the work will be pushed on at the twelve-mile peg. This is near the crusher and it getß into a very bad state during winter. With the flat metalled throughout there will be little to complain of, and an annual expenditure for maintenance running into big figures will be done away with.

The promoters of the Pio Pio medical scheme have lost no time in completing their arrangements. At a meeting held at Pio Pio on Thursday, applications'for the position of doctor were considered. It was decided to accept the application of Dr McLeod, who has just arrived in the Dominion, and who will be prepared to take up his duties in a fortnight. Dr McLeod has been practising in Monmouthsire, England, and in the Isle of SkyW.
