THEFT IN THE NIGHT.

SENSATIONAL BURGLARY. £51,800 IN ONE HIT. FREEHOLD, LEASEHOLD AND O.R.P. SLIGHT CLUE TO "VISITORS." Some time during the week sensational robberies of splendid and valuable sections of land were perpetrated in Te Kuiti. The robbers evidently knew the town well and the full value of the sections. Following are the names of those who were victimised: J. B. Young, land agent.—lo sections of freehold valued at £IOO each, and two unearned commissions. James Boddie. Five sections of freehold worth £IOO each. There were several minor robberies about which the losers are still reti cent, pending the sitting of the Native Court. A singular feature in connection With the whole affair is that the robbers in their hurry left £35,609 15s worth of clear titles which were hanging in a Maori kit in a conspicuous place at the huad of Young's bed. No cause can be assigned for the rash neglect, but the public are vigilant. His night porter "Dinny," a ferocious looking bull dog, was drugged and gagged, and when found this morning his two prominent teeth Were missing. He was due at the Cambridge Show, but has now been detained by the police to undergo dental supervision, pending further inquiries. Fortunately a few grand Pukenui sections Were left untouched, so that they are still available. All particulars of the shocking burglary can be had on application to Young and Co., land agents, Te Kuiti, opposite Chronicle ocffie. Photos of the robbed can be had free.*
