TE KUITI CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

o —© — A meeting of the committee of the To Kuiti Chamber of Commerce was held at the Chronicle office yesterday, the president (Mr Mostyn Jones) in the chair. Ministerial Visit. ■ - The secretary was instructed to arrange a meeting between representatives of the County and Borough Councils and the Chamber of Commerce to arrange details in connection with Mr Herries' visit which is dated for March 19th. Southern Members' Tour.—The president drew attention to the proposal to invite a number of southern members of Parliament to the district with the object of bringing before them such matters of national importance as the native lands and roads questions. A scheme wai drafted and it svaa decided to seek the co-operation of the counties of Waitomo, Ohura, Kaitieke and Kawhia, the boroughs of Taumarunui and To Kuiti, and Otorohanga Town Council, in addition to the Chambers of Commerce in each centre. It was decided to establish a fighting fund for the purpose of advancing tho interests of the distirct. and a good response was met with in tho room.

Roads. —The chairman referred to the roading of the Rangitoto block. He advocated that steps should be taken with a view to having the district thoroughly roadod, giving the settlers propor access to Te Kuiti. —■ It was resolved that the Government be urged to form the road to connect the Rangitoto road with the road to Otewa at section 4 block M. The chairman said the settlem were extremely anxious to have the road completed and would raise a special metalling loan as soon as it was possible to carry on the work. Telephones. —lt was resolved to approach the Telegraph Department with a view to having greater telephone facilities between To Kuiti and Hamilton. The chairman referred to the linking up of the telephone line between To Kuiti and Marokopa, and suggested that the department be approached with a vow to having the connection between Mangaohao and Moeatoa completed. The matter was left to the president and secretary to deal with.
