MADERO A PRISONER
' ELECTING A PRESIDENT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Copyright Mexico City, Thursday. When Madero was about to leave the city he was stopped by the Government's orders, and allegations were put forward on General Huerta's bhalf that Madero conspired against General Huerta's life. The Mexican Congress discussed the question of exile throughout the night. A firing party executed Adolph Basso, superintendent of the national palace. Basso, an aged man, bared his breast to the riflemen, shouting "Vive Mexico." General Huerta has communicated with President Taft, informing him of the capture of Maaero and of his (Huerta's) appointment as Provisional President. He states that the Mexican Congress will be summoned to meet within a week to settle the question of the presidency. CONDITIONS PEACEFUL. MADERO TO STAND TRIAL. Received February 21, 9.10 p.m. Mexico City, Friday. The Committee of the House of Deputies are demanding that Madero be compelled to stand an official inquiry as to wnether he shot uolonel Riveroll when arrested at the national palace; also whether he misused Government funds. In all likelihood Madero will be compelled to return and stand his trial. General Huerta has been sworn in as president. Diaz up to the present has not offered any objection. The conditions are now peaceful and the rebels in northern Mexico are likely to submit if certain demands are granted. NEW MEXICAN GOVERNMENT. UNITED STATES PROTEST. General Huerta publishes a statement that Madero arranged a list of prosecutions including a number of senators and deputies, and all foreign correspondents. The United States strongly protests against further executions, and will protect Madero.
