EMPRESS PICTURES. Tho new picture programme to be shown at the Empress Theatre tonight includes "A Woman's Martyrdom." a dramatic story of 2500 feet, the- story of which is:--James \b continually appealing to his brother Cecil for funds, but eventually theao are stopp»d. Tim profligate finds a lovo letter to Cecil's wife from lieutenant about to leave for Morocco, requestinga meeting. Cecil is shown tho letter, condemns his wifo and turns her out of the house. She is about tocommit suicide when she is saved by a peasant who takes her to an inn. where sh/;< stops. In Morocco the lieutenant dies, after sending- a letter to Cecil's wife begging her to forgive him for having tried to make her forget the dutiew of wifehood. Cecil op«na this, discovers his mistake and attempts to find his wife. Ho is unsuccessful. Some time after his little girl is injured and is carried to tho inn where her mother is staying. Tho child is tended and returns home. Latt r she visits the inn to thank the person who attended to her, discovers she is her mother and sends for her father. While waiting for him she in seen by her uncle James, who kidnaps her He is seen by tho mother, who catches him up just as he (oshoh tho chi'd into a river. T1k j mother saves her daughter's life and coming lace to face with her husband (horn is a general reunion. "The Bank Cashier," "Aunty's Romance," and tho Australian Gazette are among other itemß on the list. TE KUITI BAND SOCIAL. On Wednesday evening last a very enjoyable last entertainment was afforded to the puhlic at tho Town Hall. The band assisted by Mr Jack Hotet on the piano, provided the music. All who were present thoroughly appreciated the treat which it is anticipated will bo made a monthly event. In spits* of the holiday I hern was a marked nbsonce of anything approaching rowdyism.
