LAWN TENNIS.
HOWARD SHIELD MATCH. WON BY MANGAPEHI. In a match commenced on Ist inst. and completed on 15th inst., Mangapehi have at last succeeded in wresting the coveted Howard Shield from the possession of Te Kuiti. The two final games, men's doubles, were, by the kind permission of Mr Hitchcock, played or. that gentleman's private lawn, which was in excellent condition. The Mangapehi visitors greatly appreciateu the courtesy of Mr and Mrs Hitchcock and family, and of the Te Kuiti pla-ers. Owing to the fact that one of the Mangapehi ladies was unable to play, two matches, a ladies' single and a double, had to be forfeited to Te Kuiti. Appended are the scores, Mangapehi players being mentioned first in each case: Ladies' Singles: Miss D. Johnson v. Miss Jordan. 2 —6, 6 —5, 6—5: Miss Tomlinson v. Miss Graham, forfeit. Men's Singles: McCracken v . Kelso 6—2, 6—5; Hayson v. Mc Carthy 2—6, 3—6; Buck v. Harton, 6—3, 3—6, 3—6. Men's Doubles: McCracken and Seymour v. Kelso and Semmens, 6—4, 6—2; Buck and Hayson v. Harton and McCarthy, 6—3, 6_3. Combined Doubles: McCracken and Miss Johnson v. Kelso and Miss Graham, 6—3, 6—5; Seymour and Miss McCracken V. Semmens and Mrs Matthew. 6—o, 5—6. Ladies' Doubles: Misses Johnson v. Misses Jordan and Graham, o—6, 3—6; Misses McCracken and Tomlinson v. Mrs Matthew and Miss Ellison, forfeited. •
