MAROKOPA.

Own Correspondent. During the past week several bush fires have taken placj and excellent burns have resulted. There are now only a few settlers left to burn their bush. At a meeting of the Marokopa Athletic Club on Saturday night it wbb decided to hold a sports meeting on Friday, March 14th. The following officers were elected: —Patron, Mr C. K. Wilson, M.P ; president, Mr E. C. Stanley; committee, Messrs T. Whelan, A. Reid, J. Smith, J. Willison, J. Matheson, C. Lewis, S. Mudie, E. McGrath and G. Gordon; referee, Mr J. Kinnaino; "judges, Messrs P. W. Bell and P. C. Rose; clerk of course, Tamaranga; secretary and treasurer, Mr R. M. Dunn. Prizos to the amount of £35 in cash and trophieß have been alllocated for the day's sport.

Last week end a cricket match between the Marokopa and Awamarino Cricket Clubs was played at Awamarino, and was won by the latter with 2i) runs to the good. The Awamarino team showed considerable improvement uii their firs*, two matches. The Marokopa team joruney to Awamarino by Mr Forbes' launch, who kindly placed it at their disposal and a mußt enioyable outing was experienced. An incident on the return trip which caused considerable mirth was the veteran skipper of the Marokopa team Mr J. Matheson, who among others wag sitting on the deck of the launch plaiyng an was suddenly precipitated into tho river on account of the boat having hit a snag during his playing of that well-known hymn which was made so famous when the Titanic was wrecked. Beyond a good ducking the Marokpoa skipper waß. little the worse for his adventure.

Mr R. M. Dunn, who has been ap • pointed to the position of local schoolmaster in place of Mr R. C. Honore, commenced his duties at the beginning of the week.

The spuply of cream to the dairy factory continues to bo well maintained for this time of year and is considerably in excess of the corresponding period of iast year.
