RAILWAY CROSSINGS—AWAKINO ROAD.
The Editor. Sir, —I would like the attention of the public drawn to the following, viz.: the railway crossing from the Awakino road at Te Kuiti. The serious accident —and sad result —which occurred there recently, is generally know, but the many narrow escapes are passed by. Dangerous and unsignalled crossings are common features of our State railways in New Zea* land. What is the sense of the notice "Look out for the engine," when one cannot see it coming, one' 3 view being obstructed by large sign boards. Such is the case at the crossing about which lam writing. It is clearly the duty of the public to appeal to the local Borough Council to do something to minimise this evil, and thus avert much sorrow and suffering.—l am, 6tC ' K. R. NILSON.
