MAROKOPA.

CRICKET. Larit week end a cricket match took place between teams representing Awamarino and Marokopa, and resulted in an easy win for the latter. Awamarino 'first innings 19, Maro kopa 64. Second innings 21, Marokopa 81. For the winners G. Richards 23, and J. Matheaon 19, were top scorers. For the losers, W. Pilkington was the only one to reach double figures. With the ball Matheson and Riddle did good work for the winners, the latter taking five wickets for six runs in the second innings. Pilkington and J. Forbes were the best bowlers for th losers. VALEDICTORY SOCIAL. Mr R. C. Honore, who has been teacher in the district for the past five years and has been transferred to Te Rau a-Moa, was tendered a farewell social by the ladies on Saturday evening. During the evening a presentation was made on behalf of the people of the district, by Mr E. C. Stanley, who paid a glnwing tribute to Mr Honore's sterling character. and heartily congratulated him on his well earned promotion. On behalf of the natives, Rou Haeriti expressed his sorrows, and that of the other natives, at Mr Honore's departure, who, he said was always a friend of the natives and their children. Miss Lizzie Rou presented Mr Honore with a beautiful mat amidst much applause. Mr Honnre thanked the donors for their beauti f ul gifts, which, he said, he would always treasure. At a meeting of representatives of the various ports clubs it was decided to present a memento suitably inscribed to Mr R. C. Honore, who had taken such an active and keen interest in he sports and pastimes of the distrirct. '
