BOWLING.

The Te Kuiti bowlers who journeyed to Te Aroha to take part in the South Auckland Pennant competition, performed remarkably well, being defeated by Thames in the final by the narrow margin of one point. The games throughout were closely contested excellent form being shown by all the teams. The deciding game between Thames and Te Kuiti was exceptionally keen, the rival teams being 18 all at the twentieth head, thus necessitating an extra head to deci.le the match. The Thames team scored one up in the extra head and won the pennant. On Saturday the final game of the tournament was played between Te Kuiti and Hamilton to decide second place A somewhat easy win went to the credit of Te Kuiti, the final scores reading— Te Kuiti 24, Hamilton 9. The members of the team had a most enjoyable time, and are convinced that with just a shade of luck in their favour they would have won the pennant. However, the charm of all sport is the game, and the team that wins is deserving of every credit. The contest for the Cochrane ferns between the present holders and the team of first year players will probably take place to-morrow week on the local green. The colts are vary confident, but it is frequently the case with inexperienced players to under estimate the prowess of their opponents. However, they are practising assiduously, and their form is so good that, unless defeated by nerves, they will probably be entitled to wear the trophies after the match.
