TERRACE GAOL SENSATION.

A REMARKABLE SEQUEL^.

[BY telegraph.—press association.] -"■ Wellington, Friday.

A man named Michael Malone was recently arrested, for drunkenness and died in the Terrace Gaol. At the inquest it was found that he had been badly knocked about, and Dr Fyffe had no hesitation in Baying he believed the man had been "done to death." Deceased was' marked in numerous places, and the right parietal bone was fractured. No further light could be thrown on the occurrence at the time, but recently a detective noticed a man wearing clotheß which did not fit him. He questioned the man, and, was not satisfied with his answers. The maker's tag had been torn off the clothes, but investigation showed that the suit had been made in Taumarunui. The maker reported that it was made for a man named Malone, and Malone is known to have been working in that district.
