ACCIDENT AT TE KUITI.
TRAIN AND WAGGON COLLIDE.
WAGGON DRIVER INJURED
As the goods train from Taumarunui was running into Te Kuiti station last night, shortly after half-past nine, the engine crashed into a waggon loaded with wool which was arriving from Pio Pio. The waggon, which was owned by Messrs Stevens and Co., and driven by Mr George McLaren, was cut in two and completely smashed, while the wool bales were scattered in all directions. The driver pluckily stuck to his horses and held them in control, thus preventing damage to the frightened animals. McLaren abstained a severe cut un the arm and a broken wrist, and his ability to control the horses in. the circumstance is remarkable. The train was a very heavy one, having twentyfive trucks of sheep, and a similar number of timber and general goods' tracks, besides the passenger car and van, while the engin9 was one of the heaviest used on the line.
