The detectives are working on the theory that the smaller Was a woman and was well acquainted with the Trotters and their movements, and that she was afraid to speak for fear of her voice betraying her. A labourer named Harold Thompson has been arrested and formally charged with the murder of Trotter. The police have been shadowing the accused man for days, and surrounded the house.
