BOROUGH BUILDING AREAS.
AMENDMENT OF BY-LAW
QUESTION OP FRONTAGE.
Some months ago when the by-law relating to the building areas of the borough was under discussion it was decided that the area for residential purposes should not be less than onefifth of an acre, with a froncage of forty feet. It has since been fund that in order to allow of the Bub diviaion of sections, the enforcing of the by-law as far as the frontage limit is concerned is likely to -prove a hardship, and that it is desirable to amend the regulation accordingly. At the Borough Council meeting on Monday evening the following notice of motion by Cr Lusk bearing on the matter was discussed:—"That in regard to the by-law as to limit of building area, that this council do now insert in. the said by-law before the printing and legalising thereof, that the council shall have power in all cases of small road frontages with large area behind, to grant permission in their discretion to allow building where lesser frontage is available but a larger area than a fifth of an acre. The mover explained that in some cases the shape of a section rendered it impossible to give a frontage of forty feet to an area which might considerably exceed the necessary fifth of an acre. He thought the council should have discretionary power in the matter. Other councillors supported the motion which, on being put, waß carried.
