DISTRICT REQUIREMENTS.

• The following letters have been re ' ceived by Mr C. K. Wilson, member for the district, from tha Minister for Public Works, in respect to /various affecting this district : PMi ? *PUNGAREHU ROAD.

"Referring to the letter which you forwarded me from Mr M. L. Thomas, of Waitanguru. complaining that the provision of £125 on the Public Works appropriations for Pungarehu road is altogether inadequate, I have to state that although this vote shows a liability of £6B 14s. this latter amount, which is in the hands of the Waitomo County Council, has not so far as I am aware yet been expended; at any rate has not been claimed for by the council, although the authority was issued on January 4th last. There is a further vote of £soo—£l for £l—for Pungarehu road. v Against this £353 6s 3d has been authorised to the county council, leaving an unauthorised balance of £146 13s 9d, which ia available for authorisation when the council submits proposals. Of the £353 6s 3d previously referred to, the council has so far claimed only £7O 17s 6d.—W. FRASER, Minister of Public Works.

MANGAOTAKI-MAIROA ROAD. "I have the honour to acknowledge, receipt of your telegram of 9th inst., urging that further authority should be issued in respect of the above described road, so that the men at present employed thereon may be kept at work In reply I have to state that in consideration of the circumstances, I have authorised the balance of the vote—£2oo— being expended, and the assistant road engineer has & een *£" structed accordingly.—W. FRASER, Minister of Public Works."

"With reference to your letter of Ist October and your representations urging that stock yards a-d a loading bank should be provided at Mangapehi, I have the honour to inform you that'instructions have been given for this work to be carried out, and it will be put in hand! as soon ae the ? other works at present being under- ' taken in the district are completed.— W.
