BOWLING.

TE KUITI REPRESENTATIVES.

Te Kuiti's representatives at the. North Island Bowling Tournament returned from Auckland early in Jbe week, and have received numerous congratulation, on the excellent form Sey showed throughout the tournament. " is interesting to note that the team was only beaten in the bjhoi , fina's by the ultimate winners of the banner, by two points. In the final of the last try match Te Kuiti was beaten by Grey Lynn by one point after appearing to be hopelessly out of the game. The \wir.ner .of this match took third place in the championship, therefore Te Kuiti has the ' credit of finishing fourth. Considering that nearly'a hundred teams were competing in the tournament, the performance of the local team must be ' considered excellent. v . Evidently the form shown by the local men was of. the impressive order ; as Mr Bell, skip cf the champion [ team, in acknowledging the compli- \ ments paid him and his team, made ) special mention of some of the country teams that had dona so well, referring particularly to .Power's Te Kuiti four and Haldane'sTakaka team as an example that the young and small clubs can produce as good, bowlers as the big city greens. The performances of the Te Kuiti bowlers at the tournament in Auckland must have created a, desire in the breasts of visiting bowlers to see the place which produced such warriors of the biassed sphere. On Monday the Masterton team broke their journey at Te Kuiti and spent a few hours on the local green. In a match between the Te Kuiti representatives and Masterton the score stoud 18 all on the twenty-first head. An extra head was played and the visitors increased their acore by 4 point*, thus winning a keenly fought game. On Tuesday the Petone team spent a day at Te Kuiti, and in the afternoon fought their battles over again. A very close game resulted in a win for the visitors by one point, the scores reading 16—15.
