Kenny 48, Deas 30, and Trott, 43 not oat, being chief scorers. Wellington scored 223 in the first innings, Malone 43, Phillips 42, Blamires 27, and Beechey 24 being chief contributors. OTAGO v. CANTERBURY. A CLOSE GAME The match between Otago and Canterbury representatives produced some good cricket. Going first to the wickets Canterbury made the moderate total of 137. Otago's first innings produced 204, Ramsden 74 not out being top scorer. In the second innings Canterbury did much better, compiling the respectable total of 313. Patrick 80, Sandman 58, and Hayes 57, did the greater part of the run getting, Requiring 246 to win Otago has lost five wickets for 108. CANTERBURY WIN. Dunedin, This Day. Canterbury defeated Otago by 111 runs —Canterbury 137 and 316; Otago, 204 and 138. IN AUSTRALIA. NEW SOUTH WALES v. VICTORIA. Melbourne, Thursday. In consequence of rain overnight the wicket was rather heavy to-day in the cricket match between New South Wales and Victoria. New South Wales, in the first innings, I made 84, the chief scorers being Trumper 25, Collins 15, Moore IG. Victoria has lost nine wickets for 181, the principal scorers being Carroll 73, Ransford 37, Baring not out 36, and Armstrong 15. SECOND DAY'S PLAY. Melbourne, Friday. The weather and wicket were good to-day. Victoria's first innings produced 181, the last wicekt not adding to the score. In the second innings Victoria lost three wickets for 75 Ryder 14, Seitz not £out 15, Baring not out 29. New South Waies in the second innings made 232 —Trumper 10, Colilns 44, Minnett 26, Barnes 53,M00re not out 42.
