empress PICTURES. At the Empress Theatre to-night and following nights, there will be screened the star drama ' The Cheat." This is an Australian production worthy to rank with the best film makers in the world, so says the Wellington Evening Post. It is an exceedingly absorbing story, full of unexpected thrills and sensations, and the cleverly constructed plot cannot fail to grip one's attention. A young army officer is accused of cheating at card 3, ha resigns his commission, his fiancee turns him down and he leaves England for Australia to try fresh fields. On the voyage out he effects a gallant rescue at sea of a young laiy passenger Eventually arriving in Australia lie goes on the land only to find his next-door-neighbours are the parents of the young lady he saved. A big bush fire take 3 place, and the young lady rescues her rescuer and the young people naturally fall in love. A letter arrives from England clearing up the young officer's name, and the story ends with the satisfaction of all.

Tait, i 3 the director who has the sole rights of this marvellous invention of Australasia, The Bio-megaphpone is the latest invention of Mr Edison, which enables the leading vocalists and comedians not only to be seen, but to be heard at the same time,as if th*y were in the Continental theatres throughout the world. This wonderful invention is said to be the acme of perfection and modern cinematography. There will be an interesting and varied selection of the latest dramatic, scenic comic and industrial subjcts direct from the manufacturer. T e prices will be 2s and 3s, children half-price. They antici pate a large hou3a. PREMIER PICTURES. The screening of the above pictures on Christmas nigat was witnessed by a large audience. On Thursday evening an entirely new series was shown and a good number of patrons attended. For New Year night a specially selected programme will be shown, including dramatic, scenic, comic, and educational films. The whole programme appears in our advertising columns, and a glance through it will at once convince that it is one of the best series yet submitted.
