ANGLING NOTES.

Mr H. A. Mussen, secretary uf the King CountryAcelirnatiaation Society, on Saturday last received a consignment of some five hundred yearling brown trout, which were liberated in the Mangaokewa scream. The trout were particularly fine specimens and arrived in excellent condition, for which credit is due to Mr Heywood, chief ranger, who brought the fish himself. A consignment of yearling rainbow trout is expected shortly, and this has been specially allocated to tributaries. Immediately after this a large consignment of fry is expected for outlying streams. In order that the fish may be carried to their destination from the train with reasonable safety the local society has had four canvas fish bags specially made for the purpose. The attenton being devoted by the parent body at Auckland to the local society is gratifying, and the good work now being accomplished is bound to bear fruit in the near future. The improved spoct being obtained in the Mangaokewa this season is directly traceable to the attention paid by the Auckland Society to the needs "of the local branch. It h also gratifying to note that highly satisfactory reports are to hand concerning the backblock streams. In a few years' lime the admirably suitable streams of the district should offer splendid attraction to anglers. Mr F. P. Moorhouse, president of the local Acclimatisation Society, has been spending a fortnight at Piriaka, fishing in the Wanganui river. During the period mentioned he caught ninety-one rajnb£W_trout
