AUSTRALIA'S UNDERGROUND RESERVOIRS.
Some weeks back representatives from the different States of Australia met in Sydney to confer on the subject of the artesian water supplies of Australia. One of the results of this conference is that Mr T. K. Dow has written for "Life" magazine an up-to-date article on the subject. By means of a sketch map he shows the enormous underground reservoirs of the Commonwealth as far as they have been explored, and how they are distributed, and his explanation, accompanied by numerous photographs of how the foundations of the deep are tapped, is extremely interesting. For those who love outdoor sport, the description by George Herman, who is one of the most expert anglers in Australia, of "a fight with a schnapper," will be a treat. The story is illustrated with drawings by Chas. Nuttall. Dr Fitchett in addition to his always racy and informative comments on the "History of the World," tells in this issue of "Life" the thrilling story of "Erye's Race With Death" across the Australin Bight, and vividly decsribes a visit to H.M.S. Victory. A number of strong short stories and the csutomary departments make up a first-class issue of this magazine. Mention should be made of the new series of somewhat unusual competitions that "Life" is running; the second of these appears in the December number, and the subject is one that should interest every man and woman of our readers.
