WORK TO. COMMENCE. The following letter, which has been received by the Waitorno County Council from the Public Works Department, will be welcomed by the residents and settlers in tne Kawa district. The work was planned [sometime ago, and it was antici'nated a start would have been made with the erection last season, but owin* to misconception it was hung

UP "I have the honour, by direction of the Minister of Public Works to acknowledge receipt of your letter of 23rd ult., urging that the erection of the Waipa bridge, Kawa road, should be nut in hand as early as possible, and that the work should be carried out by the department. In reply I have to state that consideration has been given to the request, and the Minister has decided that, as plans have already been prepared by the department and forwarded to your Council, the work of erecting he bridge should be carried out by the Council lam to suggest, therefore, that your Council should invite tenders for the work and submit them.on receipt to this office. The vote on the current year's appropriations is, as you are aware, £SOO (on acconut of £4700)." __^____
