TE KUITI BOROUGH COUNCIL.

A meeting of the Te Kuiti Borough Council was held on Monday evening. There were present his Worship the Mayor (Mr E. H. Hardy). Crs Floyd, Jones, Tammadge, Somerville, Julian and Walsh. School Entrance. —Cr Walsh said in reference to the engineer's recommendation with respect to the school entrance, he had written concerning the matter to the board's architect, and nothing could be done until a reply had been received. Matter deferred pending reply. Sub-division. —Messrs Broadfoot and Finlay submitted a plan of a proposed sub-division on behalf of E. A. M. Hudson. —Referred to engineer to report.

Right-of-Way.—'Messrs Earl, Kent and Howarth submitted a proposal for a right-of-way through the properties of Mrs Reed and Mr C. J. Price. Referred to the Works Committee to report. To Kuiti Domain. —Mr Hine, the borough solicitor, wrote stating that the Minister had no objection to placing the Domain under the control of the Council providing the Domain Board agreed to resign and the Council passed a resolution agreeing to accept the responsibility.—The necessary resolution was passed on the motion of Crs Julian and Somerville. Government Subsidy.—The Valuation Department forwarded £l4l 7s Bd, amount of Government subsidy for the year 1911-12. Ventilation.—Mr J. Jones, architect, submitted specifications for the ventilation of the Municipal Buildings.—Referred to the Legal and Finance Committee with power to act. Road Reserve. —Mr R. H. G. Skipwith applied for permission to cultivate the portion of the road reserve adjoining the bowling green, undertaking to leave a footpath through the same and to give up occupation on 14 days' notice. Crs Tammadge and Somerville were empowered to deal with the application.

Road Access. —Mr J. Sutherland applied to have Hinerangi street opened for traffic to give access to his residence.—Referred to the engineer to report. Hall Piano.—Mr A. E. Robinson wrote, pointing out the necessity for a piano in the Municipal Hall and offering to supply same. —Received. Notice of Motiun. —The notice of motion standining the name of Cr Somerville to the effect that the motion authorising the taking of an allotment adjoining the power house under the Public Works Act should be rescinded was seconded by Cr Tammadge and carried. Borough Valuation. —The motion of which notice had been given by Cr Jones was seconded by Cr Somerville, "That inasmuch as land values in Te Kuiti are already sufficiently high, the Government Valuer be informed that the reason this Council has applied for a new valuation is only tor the purpose of getting an equitable adjustment of values and this Council is of opinion that a general rise in values is not at present justified." The mover pointed out that care should be taken not to boom the town or do anything which might accentuate the evil of the leasehold position. He thought no harm could be done by informing the Valuation Department that the re-valuation asked for was merely to make an equitable rating. The motion on being put was carried. Private Streets.—The engineer submitted draft conditions to be applied in the laying out of private streets.— It was decided to hold a special meeting of the Council on Monday evening next to consider the conditions in committee.
