HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLEGRAM. Wellington Monday. The High Commissioner's cable, dated London, November 2nd, is as follws, quotations unless otherwise specified, are average market prices on spot:— Mutton. —The market is quiet, but steady, on account of moderate supply. Canterbury 4Ad, North Island 4£d, River Plate 4d, Australian 31d, English ewes 4d. Lamb. The market is weaker, though not actually lower, Canterbury s|d, other than Canterbury 5Jd. Beef. —The market is very dull. The supply exceeds the demand. New Zealand hindquarters 3§d, New I Zealand fores 2&d.

Butter. —The market is weakening, with signs of decline, arid less demand. The supply being plentiful buyers are holding back, expecting prices to go lower. Danish 130s, Siberian 109s, Australian 119s, Argentine 119s. Cheese. —The market is unsettled, and prices irregular. The supply of English is large. Canadian white 635, coloured 645. Hemp. —The market is strong and prices have advanced. Spot New Zealand good fair grade £34 10s, New Zealand fair grade £33, fair current Manila £34 10s, forward shipment bout the same prices. The output from Manila for the week was 3,100 bales.

River Plate meat shipments received during October, 1912, totalled 246,320 carcases mutton, and 56,719 carcases lamb.

The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report:— At Cambridge on October 28th, we yarded 1229 head of cattle, comprising 162 fat steers and cows, 784 store cattle, 135 bulls and 148 springerß, also sheep and pigs. The yards were, of course, taxed to their utmost capacity, a large number of yearlings being held in the sheep pens. Two auctioneers were operating, so that the sale was concluded and the yards cleared in good time. There was a large attendance of buyers, and a keen demand throughout, and the sale was a most successful one, the whole entry being disposed of at auction. Prices:—Small fat steers £9 ss, prime cows £9 2s 6d to £9 10s, good cows £6 19s to £7 15s, medium cows £5 17s to £6 10s, kilable cow £5 5s to £5 la 6d, cows in fresh condition £4 10s to £4 17s 6d, store cows £3 7s to £4 2s 6d 3 year steers £6 5s to £7 63, 18 months to 2 year steers £4 2s to £4 Bs, 15 months steers £3 Is 6d to £3 19s, yearling steers £3 2s to £3 8s 6d, mixed yearlings £3 3s to £3 6s, yearling to 15 months heifers £3 2s 6d to £3 18s, 20 months 'heiters £4 to £4 7s 6d, 2 year heifers £4 12s 6d to £5, one pen of 2 year Jersey heifers £6, 3 year springing heifers £5 10s to £7 ss, dairy cows £6 to £l2, yearling Shorthorn bulls on accunt of Mr W. Vosper 7£gna to 13Jgns, on account of Mr Jas. Taylor 9gns to 12gns, on account of Mr W. C. Ring 7gns to 9gns, yearling bulls from other vendors Signs to BJgns, 3 year Shrothorn bulls lOgns to 16gns, aged bulls 4gns to 9igns, Jersey bulls lgn to 3gns year Holstein bulls BJgns to 9gns, fat hogget 16s to 18s, fat sheep 14s to 18s, store ipgs 23s to 31s.

Dalgetv and Co., Ltd., report:—■ We held our horse fair in the Hamilton horse bazaar on October 30th, when the advertised number or horses came forward. There was a good attendance of buyers and bidding was brisk for all young and sou-nd sorts. Three nice three year draughts from Mr J. H. Hamerton, of Cambridge, realised £SO, £43 10s and £25 respectively. We quote: —3 to 4 year heavy draughts £25 to £SO, 6 to 8 year heavy draughts £22 to £s3,aged heavy draughts £lO to £lB, medium draughts £lB 10s to £25 ss. milk cart horses £l4 5s to £2l, young harness horses £8 10s to £l4 10s, good hacks £6 10s to £l6, squibs and aged light horses 10s to 455, unbroken medium draughts £l6 to £22, unbroken hacks £3 to £l2 10s, foala £2 10s to £1 15s.
