DEBATING SOCIETY COMPETITION.

VISIT FROM TAUMARUNUI.

The long-promised debate between teams representing Taurnarunui and Te Kuiti Debating Societies respectively is to be held to-morrow evening in the Municipal Hall, when the subject'"ls the Public Control for the Sale of Liquor in the King Country Advisable?" will be debated. The chosen of the Te Kuiti Society are to take the affirmative and Taurnarunui the negative. The debate will be judged solely on the merit of the speeches and on the manner in which the subject is handled, apart entirely from the question at issue. It has not yet been decided who shall be appointed to occupy the position of judge, and probably the matter will be held open till the arrival of the visitors. The teams will probably be as follows: Taurnarunui: Rev. Father Williams, Rev. E. J. Ward, Messrs Thorp, McVilley, Short and Winter. Te Kuiti: Messrs Hardy, Ellison, Walsh, Howarth, Martin and Trinnear. After the debate the members of the societies will be entertained in the Borough Council Chambers by Mr E, H. Hardy, president of the Te Kuiti Society.
