DHURA COUNTY COUNCIL.
The monthly meeting of the Oliura County Council was hed in tho Council Chambers, Mangaroa, on Wednesday last. There were present Crs Loveday (chairman), Currie, Sandison, Kelly, Risk, Goldfinch, Lyon and Sowry. Opatu Telephone. A report is being obtained and a further communication will be forwarded when received. Tokirima Loan. •-- The chairman notified the meeting that a unanimous vote was given by the settlers to proceed with the loan and a vote would bo taken in the school room on a Saturday. Matakowhai Block.' —Mr Blaremburg wrote that his application to be transferred to the Ohura County was now before the Whangamomona Council, and he forwarded a plan of section proposed to be transferred. Matiere Township Reserve.- —The Under-Secretary of Lands wrote that it was intended to conserve the bush at present, as it contained milling timber, consisting of white pine, which is becoming valuable. Application to Have Trees Felled. —W. Halse wrote asking the council to fell the timber on the road along his frontage. Resolved that he be referred to the Public Work's Department.
Felling River Reserves. -Mr Cruickshanks wrote that tho Land Board was agreeable to him, to fall the timber, provided tho council had no objection. Resolved that tho Council offer no objection. Waikaka Road. —Messrs Mercer and Johnson wrote for final payment.— Left in the hands of the engineer. Gate Across Road.—Mr B.;,Dougherty wrote to have a gate across the road to hold his stock. —Granted provided the written consent of Messrs Shelverton Bros, is obtained.
A Road Menace.—Mr Gaudy, secretary of the Waitaanga Settlers' Association wrote suggesting that the council take over some 70 acres of steep sideling along the Tongaporutu road to prevent the hillside slipping on the road when formed. Resolved that the engineer report to next meeting.
The Public. Works Department wrote offering £SO to be expended in roading Matiere township.-—Resolved that the work be done by the council.
The Crown Lands ranger waited on the council, and submitted a plan of the proposed show site. ■ — Resolved that Cr Sandison inspect the site and report to next meeting.
Mokau-Ohura Road. —Resolved that the through cutting on Ralph hill Mokau-Ohura road, be put in repair. Mokau-Ohura Road Loan.—lnstructions were given to the clerk to proceed with this loan.
Resolved that the engineer he empowered to expend £2O in prospecting for metalling the Waitewhena riding, and that the chairman make enquiries as to the price of a rock boring machine.
Eacklocks Association —Moved by Crs So wry and Loveday that, this council join the Laekblocks Associa-tion.--.Motion lost, Crs Lyon, Sandison. Kelly and I lay ward voting against, and Crs Loveday, Curric, Goldfinch and Sowry for.
The clerk reported thai, 1110 llarvoyTokirima loan was carried by 21 votes to 3.
Resolved thai action be taken against Mrs K. Willie for trespass oC stock on Turoto road at the next Magistrate's Court, Matiere. Bridge at Aorangi. Claim made by Mr Roth for erection of bridge. —Held over until next meeting.
