NATIVE LAND BILL.

COMMITTEE AMENDMENTS. The Native Land Amendment Hill was reported by the Native Affairs Committee to the House of Representatives on Wednesday. It is now proposed that the Bill, if passed, should come into operation en December Ist, 1912. The clause regarding forfeiture of land acquired in violation of part 12 of the principal Act is amplified by the addition of provision for the extinction of leasehold interests and for the forfeiture to the Crown of the fee simple of the land concerned this land to be disposed of according to the provisions of the Land Act. The proposal that no compensation should be payable for land taken for roads has been struck out, and .machinery provided for the payment of compensation. Another new clause provides for the reservation of lands for the use of the natives.
