A very marked increase is noticeable in the supplies to the Te Kuiti dairy factory during the present month as compared with September. The amount of cream received is increasing every week and with the inauguration of the waggon servicn to Hangatiki and Oparure districts the quantity should be largely augmented.
The roads of the district are slowly drying up though the showery weather prevents the drying process from occurring rapidly. The waggon service in connection wth the Te Kuiti dairy factury is still held up in consequence of the bad state of the roads. .Probably the worst patch of the road over which the waggon will have to run is that between Te Kuiti and Te Kumi.
Mr H. D. Mcintosh has received a cable stating that Jack Johnson, the champion boxer, is anxious to sign a contract to visit Australia. H» is asking for £IOOO for his expenses. and is willing to sail on October Hl«t. Mr Mcintosh has cabled to Mr Kelly. bis representative in Chicago, to cancel all negotiations with Johnson, and to return to Australia.
The roading of native owned lands is being kept prominently before the public. At last meeting of the Waitomo County Council "further applications were received from settlers on native lands to have roads surveyed in order to get access to their holdings.
Attention is drawn to the fact that the statutory meeting in connection with the proposed loan for the borough of Te Kuiti will be held in the Town Hall to-morrow evening.
This year's special Christmas Number of the Auckland Weekly News is now to hand, and, as usual, reaches a high plane among illustrated publications. The pictures are thoroughly representative of the Dominion, the different phases of life being represented by bush, farm, and industrial pictures. A really fine page of illustrations is devoted to angling, and the pictures justify the claim of the Dominion to be the finest trout; fishing country in the world. Yachting and seaside pages convey an excellent idea of the beautiful New Zealand summer, and numerous fine scenic views depict some of the beauties and wonders of the Dominion. The News Christmas Number undoubtedly adds to the already high prestigo of New Zealand illustrated journalism. The whole of the work, including the handsome coloured presentation plates was executed at the Herald office, and the number issued this year constitutes a record.
Consumption prevented by taking Tonking's Linseed Emulsion on the first sign of a cold. Obtainable everywhere.
