CAPTURING A BURGLAR.
Many years ago, when Sir Thomas Lipton was but a smart shopkeeper in Glasgow, ha one night observed a man tampering with a shop door. Ke went forward quickly, and pointing an ominous-looking object at the fellow's breast, said sharply. "Up with your hands, or I fire." i Thu man was terrified, and at once Cinj uo his hands. ' - 0,v," said Sir Thomas, " you'll come with me to the police-station. }f yo;i attempt to run away I'll Ire."
1h: nian went quickly to the police station, where his guilt was pro.ul by the discovery of housebrca'irt.v tools on his person. When Sir Thomas had explained how ho effected the capture, the po-lice-cfl:ccr said :
"Have you a licence for carrying Sre-arms ?"
"No," was the reply. '"Humph," said the policeman, "let me see the revolver."
" Certainly," said Lipton. " Here it is." And he drew from his pocket —a pipe-case !
