TE KUITI BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The ordinary fortnightly meeting of ths above council was held in the Council Chambers on Monday evening. There were present, the Mayor (Mr E. H. Hardy), and Cra Floyd, Forsyth. Somerville, Tammadge, Walsh, Julian and Lusk. Cr Falwasssr was granted leave of absence. Cr Young's resignation was received with regret, and it wa3 resolved that appreciation of Cr Young's good service to the borough be placed on record.
A special resolution was passed re dedication of part section 2a, block, Otanake survey district from R. H. F. Travers to the borough and the bond was received.
A request from Mr A. B. Jordan to erect fence and gate on the boundary of Tawa street was referred to the engineer, with power to act. Robison's Sub-division. —Specifications of proposed road work, together with a plan showing sections of the work required to be done in completing a 18 feet dray road in the subdivision were received. —It was resolved that the matter be held over until the engineer has submitted his report upon the proper width of all roads and footpaths. Te Kuiti Domain. The chairman of tha Te Kuiti Domain Board wrote requesting the council to take over the domain and also the liability of £9o.—lt was resolved that the council take steps to have the domain vested in the council, and also to take over the liability and that the matter be referred to the borough solicitor. Electric Light. Thß council confirmed Mr Crook's action in accepting a quotation from Messrs A. and T. Burt, for stranded aluminium cable of equivalent conductivity to 7-10ths copper, which makes a reduction of £4O 17s 6d upon the street lighting wires if the same is used in place of the copper conductors quoted on. Mr Frasi wrote stating that he had no access to his section and requested the council to give him access. —It was resolved that Messrs Winger and Smith be called upon to complete the road.
Wardell's Shed.—The engineer was instructed to have this shed removed to the Borough Council's section in Taupiri street. The Esplanade. that the headmaster of the public school (Mr Power) be given authority to temporarly fence the Esplanade adjoining the recreation ground, with a view of extending the planting. Mention was made of the good work done by the children. Te Kuiti Domain—Cr Walsh gave notice of motion that the minute dealing with the proposal to dispose of the present domain be rescinded. Loan Monies.—Cr Somerville moved that at each monthly meeting the engineer submit the amount of loan money that has been expended on each street, during that period. It was resolved that the Works Committee should meet on Thursday at 2 p.m. to open tenders for carting. Dr R. H. McGill, Health Officer wrote asking whether provision had been made for the possibility of the river, when in flood, obstructing the outflow form the septic tank, also whether any system of land treatment or filtration of the effluent, before it reaches the river is provided.
Engineer's Report.—Metalling has been carried on in Tawa street, Awakino orad and Mangaorino road. The quantity of metal put on these roads is: 20li cubic yards, 139 cubic yards, and 25 cubic yard respectively. Patching has been done in Rora street, King street, and Jennings street, and screenings have been spread on various paths. Three water connections have been made for domestic "supplies and a number of hydrant plates fixed showing the position of fire plugs. The side wires of the footbridge over the river have been tightened as instructed. The re-decking of the King street bridge will be pushed on with as soon as the balance of the timber is to hand. This, I expect within the next fortnight. With regard to the cartage contracts I would recommend that in order to get the cartage on a satisfactory basis, the Works Committee be given authority to open and accept tenders, This will save a great deal of delay and expense on the works in hand. lam drawing up conditions to be observed in the forming of private streets and will submit a draft of same for your consideration at next meeting. The amount expended on wages during the past fortnight is: Loan account £SO 18s sd, General account £9l 0s 9d.
