DISAPPEARS INTO A CHASM. By Telegraph— Press Association.—Copyright London, Friday. jj~A large salt lake at Northurch, Cheshire, disappeared yesterday. Millions of gallons of salt water emptied into a chasm 200 ft deep caused by subsidence Underneath and around Northurch are brine-springs, used for making salt for over 2000 years. The town is being undermined by the pumping of the brine, and the disappearance of the lake is something of a warning as to the effects of the system adopted by the salt-makers.
