A STRANGLED INDUSTRY.
CHEAP LABOUR COMPETITION. By Telegraph—Press Association. —Copyright Melbourne, Thursday. Messrs Bryant and May's match factory has been closed, and 400 have been throyn out of employment. The reason given is that it is impossible to compete with the imported article produced with low European wages. The company has accumulated a large stock, which it is unable to unload. Unless extra protection is granted, it is stated that the industry will be strangled.
