TE KUITI DEBATING SOCIETY.

The usual sitting of I,he Parliamentary Union under the auspices «>f the Debating Society, was hold on Thursday ovening in the Municipal Hall. In the absence of Major Lusk tho Speaker's chair was occupied by Mr llocklev. After a number of questions had been answered by Ministers, tho Profit Sharing Bill, introduced by the Prime Minister, Mr E. 11. Hardy, last week, was dealt with in Ooinmittee. Trenchant eriticiam was levelled at various important clauses by Messrs Howarth, Martin, Langston, Ealwasser, and Walsh, and various amendments were proposed. The Rill was Well handled by the Prime. Minister, and the chief clauses were passed unaltered. Consideration of the Bill will be continued next Thursday ovening. For a considerable time negotiations have been ponding for a competitive debate between representatives of To Kuiti and Taumarunui Societies, and arrangements for the event are now well on tho wav to completion. The debate is to take place at Te Kuiti and Wednesday, October J (ill), lias been provsionally fixed as tho date. Tho subject has yet to bo chosen and judges appointed. Mr JO. ]I. Hardy, president of tho To Kuiii. Society, will entertain tho members of both societies at a banquet alter tho dobate.
