The steamer Star of New Zealand, bound from La Plata to Liverpool, collided with the railway steamer Slieve Bloom near Holyhead, and had to rje beached.

Two of the Star of New Zealand's holds, her, stokehold, and her engineroom are full of water. The Slieve Bloom was also badly damaged. The Star of New Zealand shows the effects of the terrible impact. Two holes were torn in her amidships. She went at full steam to the harbour of Holyhead. Her first and second hcldd are flooded, and there is no donkey engine to secure steam for the refrigerated chambers.
