TE KUITI BOROUGH COUNCIL.
A meeting of the Te Kuiti Borough Council was held last nght. There were present his Worship the Mayor (Mr E. H. Hardy), Crs Forsyth, Floyd, Young, Somerville, Walsh, Lusk, Tammadge and Falwasser.
Piping a Drain.—The application of Mr H. A. Ellison for permission to lay nine-inch pipes in Rata street was referred to the engineer.
Finance. On the motion of Cr Somerville, seconded by Cr Forsyth, it was decided that the Finance Committee draw up a concrete stacement showing the position of the Council in respect to the whole of the ac counts.
Hospital Fund.—The town clerk drew attention to the fact that a sum of £5 5s in the bank on fixed deposit would require to be dealt with the term of deposit having expired. Cr Forsyth moved that the amount should be added to the sum for the purpose of equipping the ambulance room.
Crs Somerville and Tammadge held that the amount was collected for the specific purpose of a contribution towards a public hospital building, but after discussion the motion was car ried.
Quarry Reserve.—The plan of the quarry reserve for the borough was received from the chief surveyor and the Mayor was authorised to sign same on behalf of the Council. Cr Forsyth suggested that the Council should take steps to acquire a quarry site at the north end of the borough adjoining the County quarry site. After discussion it was resolved that Crs Walsh, Somerville and Lusk be appointed to act in the matter. Water and Drainage By-Laws.—ln acordance with nutice of motion to that effect it was resolved that the bylaws in connection with the water and drainage system be rescinded. Swing Bridge.—Cr Walsh drew attention to the fact that repairs were required to the swing bridge at the bowling green. —The engineer was in structed to attend to the matter.
Unimproved Values Notice of motion was given by Cr Young to the effect that for the purpose of all future loans the Council take steps to have the same raised under the system of rating on unimproved values.
Recreation Ground. Cr Lusk reported that in accordance with instructions he had interviewed the Minister at Wellington regarding the proposal to dispose of the present Domain and secure an area suitable for a recreation ground. H 9 said the Government was quite sympathetic and suggested that the Council should take steps towards securing the new ground under the Public Works Act. It might be necessary to pass a special Bill to carry out the wishes of the Council, and it would be wise to have all the necessary preliminaries completed. He inoved that the Council take steps under the Public Works Act.—The motion was seconded by the Mayor and carried. On the motion of Crs Falwasser and Walsh the thanks of the Council were extended to Cr Lusk for his action.
Jennings' Street.—Cr Forsyth drew attention to the fact that Jennnigs street was being cut up by the heavy cart ng from the quarry. He suggested that the road be repaired and that the bridge be decked.—The engineer was instructed to attend to the matter.
Endowments.—Cr Floyd referred to the subject of town endowments. He said it was highly important that endowments should be obtained for the town, and moved that the petition now before the Government with respect to Tokipuhuki be endorsed by the Council. The motion was seconded by Cr Forsyth and carried. Cr Young suggested that as Mr Finlay was going to Wellington to represent the Chamber of Commerce in support of the petition, the Council should authorise Mr Finlay to act as its representative in supporting the proposal.- —It was resolved to authorise Mr Finlay as suggested. Special Meeting.—lt was decided that a special meeting of the Council should be held on Monday evening to discuss the engineer's report on the matter of town improvements.
