TE KUITI BOROUGH COUNCIL.
A meeting of the Te Kuiti Borough Council was held last night. There were present His Worship the Mayor, and Crs Young, Floyd, Julian and Walsh. Leave of absence was granted to Crs Lusk, Tammadge, For--syth, and Falwasser. A Public Nuisance.—A report was read from Inspector Bennett, of the Health Department, concerning a whare on a section belonging to Mr Wardell, and requesting the Council to take steps to have the building removed or destroyed.—The town clerk said Inspector Bennett had telegraphed to the owner and a reply had been received stating the owner would be -in Te Kuiti shortly. Or. the motion of Crs Julian and Young it was decided that the matter be left to the Sanitation Commitee with power to act.
In connection with the shanties on the Esplanade the town clerk reported that two had been removed.—lt was decided that action be taken under the Police Offences Act against all those who failed to remove.
Property Sub-division.—The plan of a sub-division of property was submitted by Mr Hine on behalf of Mr A. S. Gresham for the' approval of the Council.—The Mayor said the plan was not in accordance wtih the borough by-laws, and a frontage of only fifteen links was provided.—lt was resolved that the plan be referred to the surveyor to endeavour to have a greater frontage provided. The plan of a sub-division of Sunnyside etate on the Awakino road was approved by the Council. Back Blocks Association. The Mayor and Crs Lusk or Cr Julian were appointed to represent the borough at the conference of back block local bodies to be held at Te Kuiti on September 25th.
The Lighting Contract. A letter was read from Mr S. I. Crooks, electrical engineer, with respect to the lighting contract, and suggesting_ that a lighting committee be appointed.— Resolved that the suggestion of the engineer be given effect to. The Mayor, and Crs Forsyth, Walsh, Young and Lusk were appointed a lighting committee. Power Station Site. Mr Mabbett wrote asking the Council to name a price for the lessee's interest in the allotment proposed to be taken for the power station site.—Deferred till next meeting. A Lighting Connection.—Mr W. J. Broadfoot wrote asking as to whether he would be able to get connection with the electrical system for light and motive power when it was installed. —The clerk was instructed to reply in the affirmative. Footpath Crossing.—Messrs Hattaway and Fitzpatriuk wrote requesting the Council to have some metal and screenings supplied for the entrance to their property in Taupiri street. — The clerk was instructed to reply calling on property owners to keep the crossing in repair.
Trespassers. —A. M. Ferguson wrote respecting the footpath in George street being cut up by horse traffic. — The town clerk was instructed to notify that all trespassers on the footpaths in future would be prosecuted. Ahuroa Road. —Mr D. McLean wrote on behalf of the Rangitoto settle's with respect to the culvert on the Ahuroa road. —The engineer was instructed to deal with the matter.
Esplanade Improvement. —Mr E. A. Power, headmaster of the Te Kuiti school, wrote requesting the council to vote a small amount towards the improvement of the Esplanade at the school. —Resolved that a grant of £1 be made.
Sanitary Service. Mr E. M. Donaldson wrote with respect to the night soil service.—Received.
