STRIKE AT CREYMOUTH.
DREDGE HANDS DEMANDS. [_UY TELEGRAPH. —I'IIKSS ASSOCIATION, j Greymouth, This Day. A small strike has occurred among the deck hands of the dredge Mawhera, dredging the river. According to the men's agreement with the board they work eight hours in twenty-four, work to commence at any time specified by the board's officer, the men to be paid for eight hours' work per day, whether they work or not. Any additional over the eight hours to be paid at the rate of time and a-quarter. The men now demand work shall ntart at eight o'clock, not as heretofore, at any hour specified. They want to be put on the same footing as ordinary labourers with an S a.m. to 5 p.m. day,-and overtime bevond those hours. The board contends the dredge must work to suit the tide, spoil having to be deposited over the bar. The dredge has been laid up. Carpenters yesterday assisted to remove the dredge from the river to the lagoon dock.
