LIGHTING TE KUITI.

THE ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION. THE CONTRACT LET. At last meeting of the Te Kuiti Borough Council on Tuesday evening the tenders for the work of installing the electrical plant at Te Kuiti were considered. Mr S. Irwin Crookea, electrical engineer, who was engaged by the council to estimate and project the scheme, attended. In referring to the tenders Mr Crookes said the tenders were all in excess of the original estimate, but this was due to the fact that an increased horse power had been decided upon, in addition to an additional mile of cable, while a power station at double the original cost had been decided on. The prices of metals had also increased considerably, and everything considered the tenders were on a very even footing with the estimate. After considerable discussion the final decision of the Council was deferred until Wednesday. ■ It was decided to adopt the gas producer plant, of 100 horse power, and that aluminium cable be used in the installation. The tender of Messrs A. and T. Burt, £5428, being lowest, was accepted. For the power station the tender of W. Fullerton, £750, was accepted. It is intended to push on with the work straight away and the installation should be completed by March next.
