Messrs Palgety and Co., Ltd., report: — We held our usual monthly sale in the Te Awamutu yards on 24th inst., when we had a large yarding, every pen being filled. The total entry was 637 head of cattle bsides sheep and pigs, There was a large attendance of buyers and bidding was spirited, all lines changing hands. We quote: —Fat bullocks to £lO, fat cows £5 18s to £6 17s, fat heifers £5 to £5 16s, forward cows £4 4s to £5 Is, 3 year old steers £5 12s, 2 year steers £4 6s to £4 14s, empty store cows £2 19s to £3 8s 2, year empty heifers £4 7s to £4 14s, 18 month empty heifers £3 17s, good yearlings £2 17s to £3 3s, calves off turnips 39s to 525, calves in poor condition 29s to 32a, dairy cows £5 2s to £8 ss, springing heifers close to profit £6 5s to £8 a line of choice 2 year heifers on account Mr McGovern made £B, heifers backward in calf, £4 to £6, light waggon £l3, fat ewes 15s 6d, forward wethers 18s, pigs, slips 24s to 30s, sows in pig £2 15s to £4 10s, boars 21s.
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report:— At Rangiriri on 21st inst., we yarded 783 head of cattle of good condition and quality, which met with a ready sale, buyers being present from all parts of the Waikato. Prices—Four year bullocks in forward condition £7 15s to £8 Bs, 3 to 3£ year steers £5 17s to £6 16s, 2| to 3 year steers £5 6s 6d to £5 13s, 2 to 2\ year steers £4 8s to £4 17s, yearling steers £2 16s to £3 10s, yearling heifers £2 15s to £3 2s 6d, mixed yearlings £2 10s to £3 2s, 18 months to 2 year empty heifers £4 5s to £4 Bs, store cows £3 5s to £4 10s according to condition, fat cows £6 to £B, springing heifers £5 17s 6d to £7 2s 6d, dairy cows £5 5s to £7 7s 6d. At Ngaruawahia on 23rd, fat and forward wethers realised 18s 7d, store cows £3 5s to £3 15s, 2 year empty heifers £4 ss, empty cows in forward condition £4 10s to £5, yearling heifers £3 Is to £3 2s, yearling steers £3, springing heifers £5 10s to £7 ss, dairy cows £5 5s to £6 15s.
On August 19th we held a special sale of bullocks in the Te Kuiti on behalf of Messrs Wilson and Ross, ot Puketiti. There was good competition, the 179 averaging £8 3s.
HIGH COMMISSIONERS' CABLEGRAM. Wellington, Monday. The High Commissioner's cablegram, dated London August 24th, is as follows, quotations, unless otherwise specified, being average market prices on spot:— Mutton.—There 13 a good demand for all qualities. Moderate supplies are coming forward. The market is firm at last quotations, viz. Canterbury 4|d, North Island 4Jd light and 3§d for heavies. Lamb.—The market is slightly weaker, with less demand. The weather continues unfavourable. A small supply of Scotch lambs was marketed at an average price. Canterbury light weight 51d, and heavies s&d, other than Canterbury s|d light weight, and 4gd to 5d heavies. Heavy weights ace difficult to sell. Beef. The market is quiet, but there is a good demand for hindquarters. New Zealand hindquarers 3§d, fores, slew 3Jd. Buttter.—The market is quiet, but steady. Danish 128s, Australian Ills, Siberian 107s. Cheese.—The market is steady, with moderate demand. Prices are firm at about quotations already given. New Zealand white and coloured 65s to 665, Canadian, white 64s 6d coloured 65s 6d. Hemp.—The market is firm, but little business is being done. On spot, New Zealand good fair grade £27 ss, fair grade £26; fair current Manila £26 10s, forward shipment of New Zealand good fair £27 10s, fair £26 10s; fair current Manila £27. The output from Manila for the week was 34,000 bales. Wool.—The market is firm, with more inquiry for crossbreds.
