ROOSEVELT'S CAMPAIGN OPENED. MR TAFT A DEAD ISSUE. By Telegraph. —Press Association. —Copyrlgnt, New York, Monday. Mr Roosevelt, who has been nominated aa the National Progressive Republican party's candidate for the Presidency, has opened his campaign in Boston. Huge meetings at which hymns, notably "Onward, Christian Soldiers" were sung, have been held. Mr Roosevelt declared that Mr Taft was a dead isßue in American politics, and went on to say that he sought to introduce the observance of the Ten Commandments and the Golden Rule into American public life. The ex-President replied to critics accusing him of his associations with Mr Perkins, Mr Pierpont Morgan's associate. He said that Mr Perkins was absolutely convinced of the value and justice of the Progressive Republican movement, and had joined it bona fide.
