Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., Hamilton, report: —. We held our usual monthly sale at the Te Uku yarda on Friday, 9th inst., when we had a full yarding. There was a gobd attendance, nearly all lines being quitted under the hammer. We quote: —3 year steers £6 to £6 12 s6 d, year steers £4 10s, yearlings £2 15s to £3, yearling heifers £3, 2 year heifers, empty £3 15s to £4 6s, good calves 32s to £2 16s, 2 year heifers in calf £4 2s 6d to £5, 3 year heifers in calf £6 to £6 17s 6d, dairy cows £5 10s to £7 53, empty cows £4, bulls and stags £3 5s to £4 3s. The Farmers' Co-operative Auctioneering Co., Ltd., report: —
At Ohaupo, on 6th inst., we held our stock and dairy cow sale. The yarding consisted of 200 store catile, 200 springing heifers, and about 90 cows. There was keen competition for all lines. We quote:—Three year steers £5 15s, empty heifers £3 10s to £4 16s, yearling steers and heifers £3 Is 6d, calves £2 10s to £2 19s, springing heifers £6 5s to £9 17s 6d, cows £5 to £l2. We abo yarded 950 fat and forward wethers which found reaiy sale from 17s 6d to 23s 9d. At Waihou on 9th inst., we held our two-weekly stock sale. The yarding consisting of 528 sheep, 10 pigs, 98 fat cattle, 420 store cattle and 285 cows and heifers. Fat wethers made 18s 6d to 20a 6d, ewes and wethers 14s Id to 18s 3d, fat ewes 15s, hoggets 14s 3d to 15s 6d, yearling steers £2 Is to £3 Bs, calves 375, slip 3 19s, sows £4 to £4 10s, fat steers, light £8 to £8 10s, fat cows £7 Is to £B, lighter sorts £5 12s 6d to £6 10s, .3 year steers £5 10s, empty heifers £4 to £4 9s, springing heifers £7 to £8 7s 6d, springing cows £5 15s to £8 10s.
HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. Wellington, Monday. The following cable has been received from the High Commissioner, dated London, August 10th, quotations, unless otherwise specified, being average market prices on spot:— Mutton. —The market is firm, with improved demand for best quality. Light-weight carcases are getting vary scarce. Canterbury 3£d to 4|d per lb North Island 3§d to 4Jd per lb; River Plate 3£d to 4d per lb. Lamb. —The market is steady, and fair business is doing. A good demand exists for prime quality lamb. Canterbury 5Jd to 6d per lb; other than Canterbury 5d to 5Jd.
Beef.—The market is somewhat unsteady. N.Z. hinds 3£d to 3|d. Butter. —The market is quiet and steady, with a good demand for best quality New Zealand, which is firmly held in second hands. Choicest New Zealand 116s, Australian 112s; Danish 120s; Siberian 108s. Cheese. —The market remains firm. New Zealand white 65s 6d, coloured 66s 6d; Canadian Is less; English Cheddar 735.
