HEALTH OF CHILDREN.

A GREAT MOVEMENT. PUBLIC MEETNG CALLED. The Society for the Health of Women and Children, acting in conjunction'with the Public Health Department, ia now organising a movement for the extension of the work which the Society has been carrying out in the main centres of the Dominion. The aims and objects of the Society as set forth in a circular ara as follow: — 1. To disseminate accurate information on matters affecting the health of women and children by means of lectures, demon- ■ strations, newspaper articles, pamphlets, correspondence teaching t in the home, and otherwise. 2.' To uphold the sacrednes3 of the body and the duty of health to inculcate a lofty view of the responsibility of maternity and the duty of every mother to fit herself for the perfect fulfilment of all the natural calls of motherhood both before and after childbirth.

Local committees are to be formed in every township where a body of earnest people can be got together who will devote themelves to furthering the welfare of the women and children in the directiun indicated. It is suggested that a nurse should be appointed for the Main Trunk line, the different townships on the line each contributing to much to her salary, and the nurse being responjible to the local committees. The nurse's duly will be chiefly educational, the object being prevention rather than cure. Dr Truby King is to be associated with the Public Health Department for the next few months, and is to deliver a series of lectures in connection with the movement, mainly in the country cetitres. The Mayor of Te Kuiti is in receipt of a oommunication from Dr King intimating that he will reach Te Kuiti on Friday. In another column will be found a notice by the Mayor calling a public meeting for Friday afternoon at three o'clock, in the Municipal Hall.
