NEW HIGH COMMISSIONER.
HON. T. MACKENZIE APPOINTED All doubts were set at rest on Wednesday as to who was to receive the appointment of High Commissioner, when itwas announced that Mr T. Mackenize had been appointed. The new High Commissioner plans to get to hi 3 post at a very early date. "I require to go south to settle some private affairs first," he remarked to a tress representative on Wednesday. "Then I hope to leave New Zealand for London in three weeks, travelling via Australia. Before that I must visit the Egmont electorate and say good bye to my constituents. Before accepting the post of High Commissioner I gave the matter deep and careful thought. 1 might say that I received great encouragement from my friends in Egmont to accept the position. Some wished me to stay, but I thought the matter out and came to the conclusion that had I been enabled to continue as Minister of Agriculture nothing would have induced me to leave New Zealand, but as this opportunity had passed the question then arose how best to put in my time for the benefit of New Zealand. I feel that it is my duty to go to the Old Country and to visit the Continent of Europe in order to endeavour to widen the scope of ou? markets for our great staple products. I hope to again return to New Zealand, when my services will again be available on behalf of the country I love more than any other on the globe."
