Newton King reports— At Urenui on 21st inst, I had a fair
entry, realising as follows:—F.m. ewes in lamb 10s lid to 11a, hoggets 10s 3d, fat ewes 13s, yearling steers £2 9s Gd to £2 16s 6d, 20 months to 2 year steers £3 Is to £4, acno;ding to size and quailty, store cows £2 16s Gd to £3 lis Gd, incalf heifers £4 12s Gd to £5 0s Gd,- dairy cows from £5 to £8 10s, spirnging heifers £5 103 to £6 17=3 Gd, buggy £l3 5). On the same day in my Douglas yards I had only a small entry which realised for dairy co\V3 from £7 10s to £lO, empty cows £2 ISs, 20 months steers £3 lis, empty 2 year heifers £3 16s.
At Tariki road on the same day I held a clearing sale on account of Mr H. R. Noble. I had an excellent attendance and good competition right throughout. The cattle were a choice lot and some very hi«h prices were obtained. Mr Noble's cows averaged, with the exception of two three teaters £l4 2s 6d for the line, choice 2 year springing heifers £ls to £7, his yearling heifers, very well done, sold after spirited bid lino; at £9 15s to £4, 2 choice cows were offered at on account of Mr T. Body and were sold at £2B and £2O. respectively. Price3 —yearling heifers £4 to £9 15s average £6 3a, 2 year in calf heifers £7 to £ls average £ll 13s 4d, dairy cows to £l7 Ids average £l4 2s 6d, three-quarter ss, bull £G. heifer calf 30a, black gelding £25 ss, dray and frame £l4 ss, bay mare £lO, hay rake £5 ss, plough £7, sundries on account of Messrs Armstrong Bros., and furniturp, etc., on account of Mr Noble, sold at satisfactory rates. In my Stratford yard 3 on 23rd inst., owing to the wet weather, stock did nut come forward up to advertised numbers, but I had a good entry, practically everything being cleared —Good empty 20 months to 2 year heifers were in strong demand. Yearling steers £2 7s 6d, yearling heifers, best £2 12s Gd to £3 Gs, small 39s Gd. A nice line of 15 coloured heifers and a yearling bull sold readily at £3 10a 6d, bulls £2 to £3 12s 6d, store cows aged £l, good £2 12s to £3 10a, forward cowa £4 18s 6d to £5, fat cowa £fi 4s, weanera 15s, empty 20 months heifers, good £4 5s to £5, others £3 13s 6d to £3 19s, and a very choice line of 2 year grade Jerseys to a Kaksramea client at £5 6s.
At my Stony River yards on 24th inst , the following prices were obtained: —Mixed yearlings, small 15a to 33s 6d, yearling steers £2 4a 6d to £2 15s, yearling; Jersey Holstein heifers very choica £4 Os 6d. others £2 16s 6d to £3 2s, empty 20 months heifers £3 15s, 20 months steers £3 15s, store cows £2 7s to £2 17s, springing heifers £5 89 to £5 18s, dairy cows £5 10a to £7 12s Gd, ewes in lamb 13a.
On the same day, in conjunction with the New Zealand Loan Co.,
Hawera, I conducted Mr R. H. Phillip's annual dispersal sale. The weather was decidedly wretched, and kept a big lot of buyers from South Taranaki away. The demand, bowever, was good for dairy cows, but heifers were not so good. The vendor must be congratulated on the excellent quality of the cattle yarded. The dairy catHa were a very choice lot, especially the coloured heifers. Dairy cows sold at from £8 10a 'to £ls, springing heifers £6 to £l3 5s and £l7 for an exceptionally choice heifer.
