AMUSEMENTS.

THE HOSPITAL BALL

, Preparations for the plain and fancy ball to be held to-morrow in aid of the local hospital fund are now well in hand and the function promises to be a great success. In the afternoon a fancy dress football match will be held at the Domain, and if expectations are fulfilled the game will be something to be remembered. _ The players are to march in procession to the Domain headed by the Oparure Band. Prior to the start of the. procession a Maori haka is to be performed, and a haka will also be given during half time. The procession in connection with the Hospital Fund arranged for tomorrow afternoon will be considerably augmented by the school children, the fire brigade, the Druids and Oddfellows' Lodges in regalia, and several fancy dresses. The muster for al! taking part in the procession will meet at the Waitomo County Council Chambers at 2 p.m., and arranged into position, leaving the Chambers at 2.30 p.m. sharp. The Oparure Band will head the procesison. In the evening the plain and fancy dress and poster ball will be held in the Town Hall. A Grand March will be arranged _for 830 p.m., after which a flash light picture will be taken by Mr Hawley. Mr J. E. Thomson has kindly given the use : of his marquee and crockery and the" King Country Aerated Water Co. supply the drinks gratis. The pictures at the Rink to-night and Friday evening at the Town Hall should considerably augment the funds being raised.

HAYWARD'S PICTURES. A complete change of programme will be made at the Town Hall on Friday evening next in connection with Hayward's Pictures. One of the principal films is entitled "Tragedy at Sea." This is a great sea picture and is said to be one of the most marvellous and realistic films ever screened. "The Vengeance of the Mafia" is a oscret society drama and embraces many incidents of a sensational nature. An Indian "Romeo and Juliet" is an Indian romance of unusual interest. The principal comedy is entitled "Jim's Jam." "Alevaide Les Bains" and "Rome and the Tiber," are scenic films which will disclose some very fine scenery, and should certainly attract a bumper house. A percentage of the , proceeds will be devoted to the local hospital fund and it behoves everyone to attend and support such a laudable object.

ST LUKE'S CHURCH ORGAN FUND. The children's operetta, "Red Riding Hood," in aid uf St. Luke's organ fund was produced to a large and appreciative audience in the Te Kuiti Town Hall last night. The parts were admirably taken and the various scenes were enacted ht a highly creditable manner. The following are tha various characters :—Red Riding ticod, Florence Lineham; Mother, Edith Fickling; Grandmother, Miss Downes; Woodman, Mr H. Poutawera; Wolf, Mr A. Price: Primrose, Doris Spencer; PoDpy, Myra Petherick; Buttercup', Jeanse Forstyh; Rose, Muriel Bayly; Bluebells, Misses Lipscombe, F Adams, M. Douglas, G. Fickling, V. Jones, M. Junes, M. Bayley; Orchestra, Miss Graham, Mrs A. C. Johnston, Mr B. Clapham. The operetta was followed by the well-known one-act farce "Ici un Parle Francais," in which the cast of characters was as follows:— Major Regulus Rattan, Mr J. B. Sharpies; Victor k > Dubois, Mr A. F. Howartn; Mr Spriggins, Mr A. C. Simmons; Mrs Sprig gins! Miss Downes; Angelina, their daughter, Miss D. Brown; Julia, wife of a Major Rattan, Miss Brown; Anna Maria, maid of all work, Miss L Smith. The piece was produced in excellent style, the various characters being well sustained, and the humoreus situations made the most of The financial result of the entertainment is extremely satisfactory and a substantial amount will be placed to the credit of the organ fund.
