OTOROHANGA NEEDS.

A deputation of Otorohanga settlers represented by Mr John Ormsby and Mr H. Matthews, advocated the needs of the Otorohanga district. The Kio Kio metalling schemes were explained and a £ for £ subsidy asked for. The total amount necessary was £13,000, and the settlers proposed to raise by way of loan £6500. The deputation also referred to the Ngutunui road, which would eventually be the main road between the Main Trunk and line and Kawhia. Three or four miles were unformed and the road was practically impassable. They Htrongly urged that the road should be opened up. The road along the Waitomo river from Otorohanga to the Caves was also advocated.

The Minister said the request would all be carefully noted, and all that was possible would be done. He was glad to have met the settlers and would be in a position to give due weight to the various representations.
