LEGION FRONTIERSMEN.
General Baden-Powell, Chief Scout, says that as the members of the Legion of Frontiersmen are greatly respected by all Boy Scouts throughout the world, the Legion is capable of exercising an immense influence for good in connection with the Scout movement. Arrangements have already been made by the Auckland Command to carry out General Baden Powell's wish.
The Legion of Frontiersmen iB a self-governing, self-supporting organisation consisting of members, either unable to serve in the Territorial forces, enrolled, trained, and organiaed with a view of their serviced being used for the maintenance of British prestige and peace. As such it should commend itself to every Britisher. v The commandant of She Legion of Frontiersmen throughout the Empire is Colonel D. P. Driaeoll, who did such good service in command of Driscoll's Scouts during the Boer war. At a large gathering of Frontiersmen of the Auckland district, held in the Chamber of Commerce, Auckland, on Jul; 11th, Colonel Allen Bell was unanimously elected District Commandant.
Members of all ranks are enjoined to regard the Legion as a brotherhood banded together for the defence of the Empire and the encouragement of the idea of a citizen army. The Legion depends on the honour of its members for the maintenance of a high standard of efficiency and discipline. Frontiersmen are also gnjoined to encourage in every way the new Territorial scheme, use their influence with objectors and to set an example of patriotic activity to those of our countrymen who are apathetic. The first general meeting of those enrolled in- the Auckland command held last week, was of a moat enthusiastic nature. The following executive was elected: Messrs A. M. Myers, C. J. Hague, S. Dobson, W. Woolford, J, M. Ranstead, D. Drewett, Major Connors, F. J» Jones, H. M. Skeet, P. Chambers, Capt. Mostyn Jones, W. Moore, Capt. Colbeck, Capt. J. B. Whyte, C. Ellingham, A. H. Messanger, Dr. Fullerton, W. McCracken, D. Briscoe, A. Wintour; J. K. Waile, Forbes Eadie, G. Q. Brown, j. Penneket, S. Steele, E. Noble? E. H. Taylor, J. S. Colhoun, Hon. W. *H. Herrles, J Baynton, V. W. Lorigan, C. Houghton, Mr G. F. Hendry was appointed secretary, Mr W. Bridgman treasurer, Mr E. D. Esterre literary secretary, and Mr W. J. Wheeler organiser.
