OTOROHANGA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
The regular meeting was held in Mr Willis' office on Tuesday last. 1 here were present—Messrs J. Willis (president), F.'Wbyte, C. Kidson, F. Phillips, R. Gregg, C. J. Worthington, R. Green, H. Clarke, C. Miller, and J. A. Ormsby. Owing to indisposition Mr F. Forster, secretary, was unable to attend. Three new members were elected, Messrs Tingey, Beck and Hoffman. Plans for Town Hall.-It was decided to return the plans of Towii Hall kindly lent by Mr Roe, and to inform him that the Chamber of Commerce cannot come to any arrangement with the Town Council, owing to difficulties with respect to site and loan money. A telegram was received from the secretary of Kawhia Chamber of Commerce, notifying that the new Minister for Public Works would meet the delegates concerning the Kawhia railway after July 31st. It was decided to try to arrange that the delegates interview the Minister for Public Works at Te Kuiti instead of at Wellington. Kaimonga Road. —A letter was received from the secretary Hauturu branch of the Farmers' Union 'asking for assistance in petitioning to have the Kaimonga road opened up. The letter pointed out that the road would connect between Honikiwi and Awaroa on the Kawhia harbour, and the distance between Otorohanga and Kawhia harbour would then be 25 miles.—lt was decided to reply that the Otorohanga Chamber of Commerce is in full sympathy with the movement, and will be pleased to assist the Farmers' Union. Recognising the importance of opening, up this road, not only to the settlers, but the advantages to Otorohanga also, the Chamber suggests that the union send a delegate to form a deputation with our delegate to interview the Minister for Public Works when he arrives at j Te Kuiti shortly. Letter of Sympathy.—Decided to send a letter of condolence and sympathy to Mr W. Vicary on the lobs of his daughter-in-law. , Kawhia Railway.—As the Minister for Public Works is expected in Te Kuiti very shortly it was decided to try to arrange for the delegates who were to interview the Minister at Wellington with respect to having a trial survey made to have their interview at Te Kuiti.
Otorohanga - Hangatiki - Waitomo Road.—The delegate to interview the Minister for Public Works over the Kawhia railway is to present the petitions that are in circulation to have the above road opened up, and to enlarge upon the extensive area of country to be opened up, and also to mention the advantages of the proposed road as a stock route for Marokopa settlers. Shed for Morgue.—The Health Department is to be written to asking what steps they are taking in the matter of arranging with the Public Works Department to have a shed erected which can be utilised as a morgue.
